What is the Design Studio?

The Design Studio includes services from a professional designer in person, by phone, or online. Whether you are furnishing one room or your entire home, a designer will listen to your needs, review the inspiration you've provided, and present you with design concepts, layouts, and more, depending on the service package you choose.

How long do I have to book my appointment after purchase?

Plenty of time! You have up to 3 months after receiving the design questionnaire to schedule your consultation.

What times do you have available?

While we keep regular business hours, Monday through Friday 11am through 6pm, appointments are available for initial consultations up to 7pm on weekdays. If you would like an appointment outside of these hours, reach out via email for additional scheduling options. And because unexpected things can happen, you'll be able to reschedule your appointment up to 24 hours in advance.

Can the designer work with my existing furniture pieces?

Of course! Keep as many or as few items as you like.

What if I don't like my designs?

All design is a collaborative process so your honest feedback is important, and you will have many opportunities to provide your thoughts. Once you purchase your service package, you’ll receive an in-depth questionnaire to complete regarding your design style, tastes, and preferences, including sharing your visual inspirations. For the first phase of the process, you’ll receive a design inspiration board capturing the feel of the design for review and feedback. Once approved, a design will be produced. Within your 30 day assistance window, we can exchange ideas, feedback, and alterations.

How far in advance can I make an appointment?

You can book up to four weeks in advance.

What happens after I book an appointment?

Once you book a consultation, we’ll schedule an introductory 10 minute phone call to review your style and design questionnaire. You’ll be asked to provide inspiration images (via a Pinterest board, Dropbox files, or social media links) and chat about what your ideal space would look like.

Can I cancel or reschedule my consultation?

Absolutely. You can cancel or reschedule your consultation via either of your confirmation emails. The initial email is sent to confirm booking the appointment and a follow up email 2-3 business days prior to your appointment. Please do so at least 24 hours in advance to allow other clients to take your time slot.

What should I expect from my initial consultation?

We’ll use the initial consultation to discuss design ideas and product recommendations. (That's why the more information you provide, the more productive your appointment will be.) From the consultation, you’ll receive a clear, actionable design direction for any projects you're working on and a shopping list of items that can help you live your style.

Do I need to prepare before the consultation?

After booking your appointment, you will be prompted to provide information about your style, project size, budget, current items in your home, etc. Pictures of your current space, floor plans, measurements, and inspirational images will also help your designer. Your confirmation email will include additional contact information for sending images or information.

What is the difference between a layout and a design concept? And what does a revision entail?

A design concept is the overall look and feel of a space; many designers use mood boards to communicate their concept. The layout is more detailed, showing suggested furnishings and where they would be positioned in a room. Revisions allow for tweaks of a layout—swapping out one sofa for another, for instance—rather than all-new layouts.

Will the designer be available to complete the look?

If you'd like, your designer can come to your home to oversee the installation and placement of your furnishings. (Additional fees apply.)

How do I book my appointment?

After purchasing your package, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to book your appointment. We will also create a project in your One Kings Lane account page with a link to book from there—just click "My Account" in the upper right corner of our home page or sign in, and select the "Design Projects" subheading.

Can my designer meet me in my home?

In-home consultations for clients located in New York City are available only. If you’re located outside the city, your consultation can happen remotely (via phone, email, online... your choice!) (Additional fees apply.) We have also partnered with Havenly for e-design services, which may work better for your needs.

What is the Shopping Studio?

The Shopping Studio is a unique partnership between client and designer where the client finds all the desired and then receives a full concierge service of product quotes with all designer preferred pricing available, order placement, shipment tracking with delivery scheduling, and if any issues arise, we’re here to advocate on your behalf.

Can I combine store discounts and coupons with the designer pricing?

Most vendors will not allow for this combination.

What do I do if the product I want doesn’t have preferred pricing available?

The concierge services are still available for products without preferred pricing so you would still receive the full value of our ordering platform, delivery tracking and returns system. If you would rather handle the details yourself, we can offer a rollover option. For the first product quotes that come back equal to retail pricing, the package purchase will be put toward another round of requests, with a 30-day window for use. If no additional products are quoted or ordered in that time frame, a refund will be available.

What if I can get a lower price myself through store discounts, sales, or coupons?

Great! For those clients seeking the lowest price, sometimes there is no beating the bottom line. For other clients who want the value of hands of ordering, delivery tracking, and returns help, the higher product price is well worth the ease of the process.

Is there a refund available if I’d rather place the order myself?

You will be prompted to indicate if you have a discount offer and if so for how much when submitting the product request. If the designer pricing is not the lower option and you prefer not to move forward, a partial refund will be available.

Can I combine store discounts and coupons with the designer pricing?

Most vendors will not allow for this combination.

How long does the quote and ordering process take?

We aim for a 3 business day turnaround from the Request for Quote to Product Purchasing. This could be delayed if the vendor requires additional time to process the quote. If this is the case, we will update you once we have placed the request with any information available regarding processing time.
